Practical information (for a stay in Xerocampos) |
|
In Xerocampos you will find four tavernas (only one is open all year) and a small minimarket which is usually sufficient for the basic shopping of a short or medium tourist stay. You will find fresh bread and baked goods, milk, cheese and eggs, fruit and vegetables, drinks, frozen products, cigarettes, phone cards, hygiene products, sunscreens, beach umbrellas and children toys for the sea ....... practically it has a bit of everything and has no closing days in the summer, from May to October, with opening hours from 09.00 to 21.30! Winter is closed.
Apart to this, however, in Xerocampos you will not find any other type of shop, no newsstand, not the pharmacy and the gas station and then no hotel, pub or disco or even ATMs exist here, keep this in mind when you enter the valley for your holiday, a little of early organization really does not hurt. |

Tourist info

Credit cards are accepted in taverns and some guest accommodation, to withdraw cash you must refer to the ATM located in Zakros, which is the nearest village to Xerocampos (9 km away), and here you will find in the central square a pharmacy and some grocery stores and here also a gas station, and three mechanics (one of which, the first you meet at the entrance to the village, is also a tire repairer).
Xerocampos since 2017 has been reached by optical fibre so that almost all the accommodation facilities in the area are equipped with wireless Internet with good speed. |

Missing unfortunately however the medical care services, the first emergency medical service is in the military base of Ziros, 28 minutes by car (in the center of Ziros you will find an ATM).
In Zakros, however, the local community has a defibrillator and in case of serious emergencies just ask the pharmacie or in any business that you can find open to get useful information.
The first equipped hospital facility (also with EKAB ambulance service for emergency calls, telephone 166) is the Sitia public hospital, which is about an hour's drive away.
