Sitia

is located on the north-east coast of Crete on the edge of a cape overlooking a nice bay framed by the uninhabited Dionisiades Islands.

It 'a small town with a population of 9,348 inhabitants (source Wikipedia.gr from the national census of 2011) with mainly modern architecture where the remains of ancient urban planning are concentrated in the first part of the promontory overlooking the bay to the north-west.

Interesting places to be seen are the ruins of the Venetian fortress (Kazarma), the Orthodox

Churches (always well kept), the walk on the harbour with it’s restaurants and bars (some traditional and some tourist) and the restoration of some old buildings

on the stone alleys which lead to the old town.

Here is headquartered the major hospital of the area and there are also several pharmacies, banks, supermarkets, craft shops, warehouses and shops of all kinds that make of Sitia, a small but well equipped town and a reference point for all the region.
