On the way to Elafonissi you will encounter the ancient Monastery of Panagia Hrisoskalìtissa

(Our Lady of the golden step).

 

The main body of the monastery still retains its beautiful ancient charm, but modern additions to the sides and the elevated walkway access do not bind with the simple Orthodox architecture, creating an obvious and unpleasant contrast.
